(Newport Beach, CA) — The organizers of a massive recall campaign against Governor Gavin Newsom are closing in on their goal. Newport Beach-based Rescue California is now about 100-thousand signatures away from officially triggering a recall election later this year. One-point-five-million valid petitions must be counted by March 15th, though elections officials have to certify the legitimacy of the signatures and the final tally first. Newsom\’s approval rating has dropped significantly since the fall, and the decline started not long after he was photographed dining in public without a mask at an upscale Bay Area restaurant. If the needed number of petitions is certified, the recall election would likely be in the late summer or early fall.
