Chicago Lightfoot Says Teachers Must Return Or There Will Be Action

(Chicago, IL) — Chicago’s mayor is telling teachers they must come to school on Monday or “we are going to take action.” Speaking at a news conference Sunday, Lori Lightfoot said teachers at Chicago Public Schools are required to teach in-person unless they have a pre-approved accommodation. If they choose not to come to school, they will not be allowed to teach remotely and will be marked “absent without leave” until they return. This comes as the district and the Chicago Teachers Union are in negotiation over coronavirus safety precautions.
