Survey: More Than Half Of World’s Airline Pilots Not Flying

(Undated) — A new survey finds more than half the world’s airline pilots aren’t flying for a living. The survey released Thursday pins the problem on the coronavirus pandemic that’s crippled the air travel industry. It found only 43-percent of pilots were doing the job they’d trained for, 30-percent are unemployed, 17-percent are furloughed, and 10-percent are working in roles that don’t involve flying. It also found that many pilots who are still flying have seen their salaries temporarily reduced or are working for airlines that have permanently cut jobs.
