(Washington, DC) — The U.S. Census Bureau says home builders started construction on homes at a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of one-point-six-seven million in December. That’s nearly a six-percent increase from the previous month’s figure. Permits for new homes are also up four-and-a-half percent from November’s numbers. Both figures came in above analysts’ expectations and housing starts and building permits have reached their highest levels in about 15 years. Experts cite a low supply of homes and low mortgage rates for the continuing rise in building new homes.
