(Los Angeles, CA) — California’s Supreme Court is rejecting a lawsuit that tried to force students in the nation’s second-largest school district to return for in-class learning. Two children’s rights organizations asked the court to order the Los Angeles Unified School District to allow special needs students back into the classroom. The court announced its rejection yesterday, but did not provide an explanation as to why. The groups who filed the lawsuit claim the district is in violation of a state law that requires it to offer in-person instruction and the “appropriate resources to avoid learning loss.” The LAUSD has been offering extremely limited in-person tutoring to high-need students throughout much of the pandemic.
