(Pleasanton, CA) — Safeway’s parent company Albertson’s is laying off delivery drivers and will partner with companies like DoorDash to deliver groceries. The company says it will layoff many of its Safeway, Lucky, and Vons delivery drivers at the end of next month. The “Chronicle” says unionized drivers in the Bay Area, Portland, and Seattle are not affected. Officials say the change will allow them to better compete in the home delivery market. The laid off drivers will be given opportunities to stay with the company.
