(Los Angeles, CA) — The Los Angeles Police Department is officially cutting several special units as it prepares to deal with a large budget deficit. According to a memo sent to employees on Thursday, the department is doing away with units that investigate sexual assaults, animal cruelty and handle homeless outreach. Units on burglary, auto theft and commercial crimes will also be gone soon. Chief Michel [[ Michael ]] Moore cites “a city of Los Angeles fiscal emergency” as the reason for the sweeping cuts. The LAPD expects its next yearly budget to be slashed by 150-million-dollars.
