(Los Angeles, CA) — Seven people are behind bars after a George Washington statue was torn down and defaced in Los Angeles’ Grand Park. The LAPD says they showed up to find the bronze statue toppled at its base and covered in red paint Thursday night. Cops add that a protest had been going on in the park since the afternoon. The statue had stood since 1933. It was one of 30 copies of the original Washington sculpture currently on display in the Virginia Capitol building.
