The coronavirus pandemic has prompted a coin shortage in the U-S that the Federal Reserve says is related to the recent economic shutdown in many state’s across the country.
The sign on the register at the North Alabama grocery store makes a simple request to customers: Card or exact change only, please. The reason? According to the sign, the “national coin shortage” is to blame. It turns out, the sign is accurate. Last month, the Federal Reserve issued a statement saying that the coronavirus pandemic “significantly disrupted the supply chain and normal circulation patterns for U.S. coin.”
