Faith leaders have slammed Governor Newsom’s latest mandate banning singing and chanting in houses of worship following the rise in positive coronavirus cases. Newsom claims the CDC says singing and chanting can facilitate the spread of Covid 19, but pastors say the governor issued no such orders to protesters who chanted, shouted and sang loudly as they marched in the thousands with little to no social distancing. The Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, who is a member of the National COVID-19 Recovery Commission, called Newsom’s order “completely discriminatory.” Sean Feucht, a Bethel Music worship leader and pastor in Northern California, called the order an “unprecedented attack” on the freedom of worship and says he’s defying the Democrat governor’s ban. Many other religious leaders say too they will continue to worship the same way they’ve always done and that includes singing in worship and praise.
