People Of Color Mask Rule Canceled
(Newport, OR) — An Oregon county is reversing its decision to allow minorities to be exempt from wearing masks because of the coronavirus pandemic. Lincoln County Public Health commissioners ruled last week people were required to wear masks and made an exception for those who felt they might be harassed or racially profiled if they wore a mask. The county got a strong backlash when the story went viral. People of color in the community said they were afraid the exemption would have a boomerang effect and make them more of a target. The county commission has reversed its decision and eliminated the exemption.
