Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore is demonstrating a new restraint device: a lasso that can be fired at a suspect’s legs. The chief says it will help take down suspects without firing shots.
”An opportunity to lessen the risk of injury to all parties involved.”
The Kevlar lasso looks a lot like the ropes used in superhero movies. It’s fired by the officer and quickly wraps around a suspect’s legs or torso. It can leave cuts, but officials think it will reduce the number of officer-involved shootings.
