In San Bernardino County, the so-called Hillside Fire has burned 200 acres and destroyed six homes. Nobody died, and one resident credits his neighbor.

It appears one man lost his home but saved a neighborhood. When the flames erupted at 1:30 Thursday morning, resident Don Silver was woken up by a neighbor who was determined to help others.

”He went around the neighborhood, knocking on doors ‘get out, get out, there’s a fire.’ But his home burned down.”

Silver tell KTLA-5 he doesn’t even know the neighbor that well, but he believes than man probably saved many lives even while his own home was lost. The fire, which started near Highway 18 and Lower Waterman Canyon, was quickly fed by powerful, dry winds.
