Los Angeles Police Detective Nicholas Sinclair says the suspect fled the crime scene and jumped on a Greyhound bus within two hours of the June accident. Investigators tracked the bus to the California border town of Calexico.

”From Calexico, we interviewed persons on the bus and were able to ascertain that she crossed over into Mexico.”

Maritza Lara was recently caught in southern Mexico and extradited back to the US. Police say she is facing multiple charges including drunk driving and felony hit and run. The violent crash was caught on a security camera in North Hills. Lara’s speeding Lexus reportedly slammed into a car driven by Francisco Rivas. Police say he died on the scene while the suspect walked away.
