Palmdale: Light Poles of Death?

PALMDALE (CNS) – Potential wiring issues and the risk of electrical shock prompted officials in Palmdale to issue a warning today to stay clear of poles with lighted streetlights when it rains.

The warning comes after an inspection identified wiring issues, according to the city, which has inspected 1,000 of approximately 13,000 potentially affected street lights. “The city believes that approximately 1 percent of its streetlight (about 130) poles could have a wiring issue that may result in persons or animals receiving a shock when the lights are on and it is raining,” according to a city statement. “It should be noted that this issue does not impact poles that have traffic signals and/or crosswalk buttons.”

Additional crews have been contracted by the city and mutual aid has been requested to expedite inspections.
