The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has a controversial ratepayer advocate, and LA City Councilman Paul Koretz is questioning whether officials should approve another term for Fred Pickel without a thorough review of his job performance.
“It would be hard for me to envision voting for re-hiring Mr. Pickel, because I think he hasn’t provided the service that we were looking for when we created a ratepayer advocate and an Office of Public Accountability. He could be a staffer for the DWP that does extra analysis for them. But he virtually always concludes that whatever they’re doing is the right thing, and we were hoping to have a little bit of an alternative voice and a different look at what they’re doing rather than essentially a rubber stamp.”
Councilman Koretz was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
