Urban Coyote Controversy Heats Up After Attack in Placentia

Are we doing enough to control LA and Orange county’s aggressive urban coyotes?

Police in Placentia shot and killed a coyote found in a residential neighborhood after a 3-year-old girl was bitten in the head in a nearby park.

Rob Erickson, an urban coyote management expert in Illinois, says more needs to be done to protect the public.

“’Lethal control is the only method that’s been proven to work. Very important message here is that you’re not out to get every coyote. You’re not out to try to trap every coyote. But once they cross the line, we’ve been very, very successful in eliminating that particular animal, and by doing that we solve many, many problems. Once you start a trapping program for coyotes, the other ones quickly see the negative stimuli is being created in their area. So, we’ve had a tremendous amount of success with lethal control.”

Erickson was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
