California voters rejected Proposition 10, the rent control measure on the November ballot, but in LA County the controversy continues.
The LA County Board of Supervisors has approved an emergency rent- control measure in unincorporated areas of the county. Dan Yukelson, executive director of the Apartment Association of Greater LA, says it’s a bad idea.
“You know it’s solving a problem from three or four years ago. Rents are actually declining based on the studies I’ve looked at in unincorporated areas of LA County. You know it was an issue four years ago that rents were increasing, but they’re not increasing anymore. And they’re late to the game. But, Sheila Kuehl made it a point to institute a rent-control ordinance for unincorporated areas and she got that. She didn’t get the full-blown official ordinance. She got an emergency ordinance. It’s only in place for six months. But, it’s only a matter of time before they put in the permanent ordinance.”
Yukelson was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
