There’s a telephone drive to contact voters – but not for their money.
Telethon for America is reaching out to people of all political persuasions – especially young people who have yet to be persuaded that their vote counts.
“It’s really a whole culture change that needs to happen so that participating in democracy and voting is a natural, it’s not such an uphill battle every time there’s an election,” says When We All Vote campaign’s Kim Peyser.
“For a lot of people, particularly new voters, the process is kind of intimidating. You have to figure out, if you’re new to it – you don’t know where to go – you don’t know when. There may be things on the ballot that you’re not that familiar with.”
Judd Apatow, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Olga Kay are some of the celebrities who will participate.
The telecast will air from YouTube’s studio space in the Playa Vista area of Los Angeles. It will be streamed live tonight from 6 to 8 on YouTube, Facebook Live and Comedy Central’s website
Kim Peyser was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
