LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Airport commissioners today approved $10 million in expenditures on preliminary fees and services to prepare for a $5.5 billion construction plan that includes a people mover and a rental car facility at Los Angeles International Airport. The initial funding is part of a much longer road toward building $5.5 billion in projects laid out under LAX’s Landside Access Modernization Program, and will pay for permitting fees, and services that include environmental studies, site surveys, utility work and engineering design. The major components of the overall transportation construction plan, which is aimed at easing traffic congestion, is anticipated to be completed by 2023. The people mover project is expected to link up to an under-construction Metro line that will finally connect rail stations to LAX.
