A self-described Satanist running as a Democrat for the California State Senate says when it comes to the presidential contest, he’s feeling the “Bern” for Bernie.
“I’m a hundred percent behind Bernie Sanders because he’s telling the truth,” says Steve Hill, a former U.S. Marine Sergeant and Member of the Satanic Temple. “The middle class is is just being devastated. That’s why we need unions to fight back – we need a voice for labor. This country has an insatiable hunger for cheap labor going back to slavery. That’s why we have an immigration problem.”
Hill, who is black, says he plans on reaching out to the Sanders campaign to see what he can do to help.
“But I don’t know how they’ll react to getting an offer of help from Satan.”
Hill says he also likes Donald Trump for bringing “a breath of fresh air” to American politics.
As an activist, Hill says he does stand up comedy all over the country. One of the tenets of his beliefs is that people have a right to offend others.
The former state correctional officer believes strongly in rehabilitating prisoners by giving them better educational opportunities.
“This goes to compassion. People need opportunities. They need hope.”
